Gomel 2

Gomel-2 plays in the shadow of a bigger name. The best-known basketball side in the city is Gomel-Sozh, founded in 1998 and now in the Premier League. It is also called the Gomel Tigers and GOCOR-Sozh, and the number in Gomel-2's name ties the team to that club.

The name is not unique to basketball. FC Gomel's reserve football side carries it too and plays in the First League of Belarus. Any search for Gomel-2 therefore turns up football before it turns up a basketball court.

The team's own moment came in 2018. A video published that year presented Gomel-2 as champions of Belarus among Higher League teams for the 2017/18 season. The Higher League, the Vysshaya Liga, is the competition the team plays in.

Nothing in that title made Gomel-2 a rival to the senior club, and there is no feud to report. It is the smaller of two Gomel basketball names, and its one clear result came in a single Higher League season.
