«Dragons»
When the Minsk Arena opened its doors, basketball needed a tenant worthy of 15,086 seats. The club that took up residence, founded in 2006 as BC Minsk-2006, gave the city something football in Belarus rarely offered.
The name changed twice. In September 2012 the club became Tsmoki-Minsk, borrowing its identity from the dragon of Belarusian folklore — a figure the club leaned into fully, dressing the arena in blue and white. In 2022 it reverted to BC Minsk.
A run like that rests on continuity more than any single trophy. Andrei Krivonos delivered the first championship in 2008–09, setting the pattern; Rostislav Vergun, in charge from 2019 to 2023, took the club further still, into the group stage of the Basketball Champions League for the first time. Alexei Trostinetsky, a product of the SDCSHOR-10 academy founded back in 1972, played through fifteen of those championship seasons — long enough to make winning look less like an event than a habit.
The real competition came from outside the country, in the VTB United League, where nights against CSKA Moscow or UNICS Kazan tested a squad more used to running away with games at home.
