Les Sangliers Wooltz Women

No fierce rivalry runs through Wiltz basketball history the way it does in some Luxembourgish towns. The team dropped out of the Total League Women in 1994 and did not return until 2018, a gap of twenty-four years that shaped the club more than any single opponent did.

That patience has shown in how the roster gets rebuilt. Jovana Jaksic spent two seasons in Wiltz before leaving for Sparta Bertrange, closing her final campaign there averaging 24 points, 9.6 rebounds and 5 assists a game.

The women reached the semi-finals of the LaLux Ladies Cup in 2018 and went no further, while no national title sits in the women's team record.

The whole story traces back to a café. In November 1962, the founding assembly of BBC Les Sangliers gathered at the Café Lou Conter in Wiltz, and the name chosen that day — Les Sangliers, the Wild Boars — has carried the club through the decades since, long enough that its return to the top division in 2018 could be described as a first since 1994 rather than a beginning.
