Malgrat de Mar, 16 June 1963: Spain's women played their first international, a friendly against Switzerland, and lost 31–40.

Spain's women are not a club side but the national team run by the Spanish Basketball Federation, known in Spanish basketball circles as La Familia . There is no single home ground to speak of — qualifiers and friendlies have gone to Madrid, Palencia and Zaragoza over the years — but Tenerife's Pabellón Santiago Martín has become the team's most reliable base, a venue the federation leaned on heavily during the run to bronze at the 2018 World Cup.

The 2013 title is the one still talked about most, won with Sancho Lyttle named MVP of the tournament.
