In 2026 Spartak won the Serbian SuperLeague for the first time.

The fall came in 2020. Spartak were relegated to the Second Regional League because they could not meet the financial and administrative requirements. In August 2021 the Basketball Federation of Serbia approved a merger in which Spartak absorbed KK Fair Play, which let them take Fair Play's place in the Second Serbian League. They won that league in 2021–22, the League Cup of Serbia in 2022–23 and the ABA League Second Division in 2023–24. The last of those brought promotion to the ABA League First Division. In 2024–25 they reached the ABA League quarter-finals and the SuperLeague final, where they finished as runners-up.

The 1990s were the earlier peak. Spartak were third in the FR Yugoslav League in 1992–93 and lost the 1995 FR Yugoslavia Cup final. They also played in the FIBA Saporta Cup, reaching the second round in 1992–93 and 1995–96, and in the FIBA Korać Cup group stage in 1996–97. Nenad Čanak and Nikola Kalinić are among the players associated with the club.

The rivalry that matters is with KK Vojvodina of Novi Sad. Home games are played at the Dudova Šuma Sports Hall, which holds about 2,500.

The club was founded on 21 April 1945 and named after Jovan Mikić Spartak, an Olympic athlete from the city who had been killed in 1944. Recent sponsorship has put "Office Shoes" after the name since 2021.
