Uralmash Ekaterinburg

For three seasons, Uralmash had one score to settle in its own city: BC Ural, across town in Yekaterinburg. The two met as the Ekaterinburg Derby from 2018 to 2020, and Uralmash won every meeting on record — 67:55, then 79:76, then 76:74. In 2020, Ural stopped existing as a top-tier club, and the derby ended with it.

The rivalry sat on old ground. Basketball at the Uralmash plant in Sverdlovsk dated back to 1942, when the factory team Zenit formed, and the club built from it became a fixture of Soviet basketball: twenty RSFSR championships between 1950 and 1973, three Spartakiads of the Peoples of the RSFSR, eight seasons in the USSR Higher League. Sergey Belov played there from 1964 to 1967. Funding ran out in 1984, and the club that had carried the Uralmash name was disbanded. What followed it — Bely Sobol, then SKA, then SKA-Ural, then Euras — kept the basketball going under other names until that, too, stopped.

Viktor Ganienko bought the rights to the Uralmash name in 2015 and started again from the amateur Sverdlovsk regional championship. They play at the Palace of Sporting Games, and in the 2024/2025 season, the Factory Workers won the Russian Cup.

In the derby years, Uralmash beat Ural three times out of three.
