Maria Antonina has captained Vladimir Lionesses through the stretch that turned a university side into something opponents in the Higher League now take seriously. The team grew out of the 2012 merger of Vladimir's polytechnic and pedagogical universities, when Alexander Vlasov put the roster together, though the club only became a formal legal entity in January 2020, under the name АНО БК "Vladimir Lionesses".

The run of results since has been dense. The Central Federal District title came in 2023, and the following season the club won the Higher League for the first time in its history, a result that stood alongside a national student championship and the League Belova Cup, both taken in 2024. Daria Goncharova was named to the symbolic five of the Superliga playoffs in the 2025/26 season, a mark of how far the individual level in the squad had risen alongside the team's.

The club has also tested itself abroad. In September 2025 it beat UGMK Junior 82–74 to win the Berlin Cup, and a year later, in September 2026, it took the Dau Izolan Cup after a win over Sparta & K-2, with the senior side adding a silver medal in the same tournament. Domestically, matches against Kazanochka and Dynamo-Farm have supplied the sharpest competition, without either turning into a fixed rivalry.

Home games are played at Sports Complex No. 1 of Vladimir State University, on Gorkogo Street, where the university's own students still make up much of the crowd watching.
