Dynamo Kursk Women

In February 2022 EuroLeague Women suspended Dynamo Kursk after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. That cut the club off from the competition it had won five years earlier, in 2017. Both continental trophies were won by a team that had started out with far less.

The club began in 1994 as Svetlana, named after the construction company that sponsored it. In 1997 it came under the Kursk Regional Police Department and became Dynamo, the name it has kept since. The colours are white and blue. The nickname, Belogolubye or White and Blues, comes from them and is sung in the club anthem.

At home the Russian Cup came four times, in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2020.

Over the years the club has signed players with international reputations. Breanna Stewart and Nneka Ogwumike are among those who have worn the shirt, alongside Russians such as Maria Vadeeva and Olga Frolkina.

The fixture that matters most is the Dynamo Derby against Dynamo Moscow, the other club with the same name. Kursk plays its home games at the Dynamo Arena on Engelsa Street, which holds 3,150. With European play suspended, the Russian Premier League and the Russian Cup are where the team now competes.
