Moscow has never lacked ice hockey clubs, and it has carried the Spartak name without interruption since.
Its best years came early. Four Soviet Championships arrived within a decade and a half, in 1962, 1967, 1969 and 1976, and the club added the Soviet Cup twice, beating Dynamo Moscow in the 1970 final and SKA Leningrad in 1971. Nothing since has matched that run; the closest the modern side came was a Western Conference final under Zinetula Bilyaletdinov in 2014–15, and the Gagarin Cup has stayed out of reach.
Boris and Evgeny Mayorov came through the club in that same period, alongside Vyacheslav Starshinov and Alexander Yakushev. Ilya Kovalchuk's return in 2023–24 gave the current roster a link back to that lineage, even if the trophies he came back to chase belong to a different competition than the one Spartak once dominated.
The club now plays at the Megasport Arena, a stop after Sokolniki and the VTB Ice Palace, but its story still runs back to that December night in 1946 and the 6:1 scoreline that started it.
