About the player
Benson Sakala set up the winning goal in the final of the 2019 COSAFA Cup, which Zambia won against Botswana. His international career began in 2015 and has brought 35 caps.
He had played for Zambia's U20 and U23 sides that same year. He then went to the African Nations Championship twice, in 2016 and 2020, and was selected for the Africa Cup of Nations squads in 2023 and 2025.
His club career started at Red Arrows in 2014. A year later he joined Power Dynamos, where he stayed until 2021 and was club captain from September 2020. He left as a free agent and moved to the Czech Republic, signing for Viktoria Žižkov. In the summer of 2022 he moved to Příbram.
He joined Mladá Boleslav in July 2023 on a free transfer and a two-year deal. He made 45 league appearances and scored twice. The club qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League during that period.
In May 2025 Sakala turned down offers from clubs elsewhere in Europe. He signed a two-year contract with Bohemians Praha 1905 as a free agent, with the deal starting on 1 July 2025.
