Vršovice is a district in the south-east of Prague, and it holds two football clubs within walking distance of each other. The smaller of them started there in 1905 as AFK Vršovice, and its ground, Ďolíček — the Little Hollow — still sits among the housing.

The name it carries now came from a trip. In 1927 the club toured Australia and returned as Bohemians.

The one season that everything else is measured against was 1982/83. Bohemians won the Czechoslovak league — having lost the cup final the year before. That same season took them to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, where Anderlecht ended it, and the championship carried them into the European Cup the following autumn.

Antonín Panenka played in that side. His name attached itself to a way of taking a penalty, and he never really left: he is now the club's chairman. That continuity mattered in 2005, when the club went bankrupt and was rebuilt by its own supporters, who put the founding year back into the name.

The rivalry that defines the place is a neighbourhood one.
