About the player
Jan Matoušek holds a record that no one else in the Czech top flight can claim: the fastest goal in Chance Liga history. He scored it in 16 seconds for Bohemians 1905 against Karviná on 16 August 2024.
He came through the youth academy of 1. FK Příbram and made his senior debut there in 2017. His breakthrough came in the second tier, where he was named Best Player in the National Football League for 2017–18. Slavia Prague paid for that season: in August 2018 they signed him for about €1.6 million (40 million CZK), the highest fee between two Czech clubs at the time.
Slavia did not use him as a first-team regular. He spent most of his time there out on loan, first back at Příbram, then at FK Jablonec and at FC Slovan Liberec, before a year at Bohemians 1905 from 2022. Slavia won the league in 2018–19, 2019–20 and 2020–21, and the Czech Cup in 2017–18 and 2020–21, though he was on loan for the last two league titles and the 2020–21 cup win.
Bohemians made the move permanent in July 2023, on a free transfer. The following year he scored the record goal.
For the national team, Matoušek made his senior debut on 17 June 2023 against the Faroe Islands in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier. He has two senior caps. Before that he played three times for the U20 side and 16 times for the U21s.
