Callum Slattery

Callum Slattery's most durable moment in an England shirt came from twelve yards. In the 2017 Toulon Tournament final, the England Under-20s met Ivory Coast, and when it went to a shootout he scored his penalty. England won the tournament. He had by then played for the country at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-20 level, collecting four, five and six caps respectively.

His route into the professional game began at Chelsea, where he stayed until 2008, before Southampton took him on. He remained with them until 2017 and signed his first professional contract that July. Three league appearances followed for the senior side, and the rest of his time there was spent out on loan: five games and a goal for De Graafschap in the Netherlands in 2020, then seven for Gillingham in 2021.

The move that defined his career came on 24 July 2021, when he joined Motherwell for an undisclosed fee. He stayed five years and played 148 games in all competitions, scoring 18 goals, 16 of them in 126 league matches.

The most testing stretch came in January 2024, when a serious knee injury kept him out for 369 days. In the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership he finished joint-top scorer for Motherwell with six goals, and supporters and the club recognised his form by naming him Player of the Month for March, April and May 2025.

His contract ran down in the summer of 2026, and he left on a free transfer. Sheffield Wednesday signed him on a three-year deal, taking him back to English football.
