Chris Cadden

Chris Cadden’s career is defined by his move to North America. He joined the Columbus Crew on a free transfer in July 2019.

Cadden began his journey in the Motherwell academy, making his first-team debut in March 2014. His early progress was marked by a loan to Albion Rovers, where he helped secure the Scottish Second League title. More significant success followed at Motherwell, including a Scottish Youth Cup victory and appearances in senior cup finals during the 2017–18 season. These experiences established him as a reliable presence in defence before he departed for MLS.

After returning from the United States, Cadden signed for Hibernian in January 2021. The move appeared to revitalize his form, leading to him being named the club’s Player of the Season in 2021–22. His consistency earned him recognition at international level, with twelve caps for the under-21 side and two appearances for the senior national team in 2018, including a debut against Peru.

The defender’s path has not been linear. He moved from the Scottish top flight to Major League Soccer and back again, adapting to different styles of play. Recent reports indicate a move to Aberdeen in July 2026, continuing his progression through the Scottish leagues.

Cadden remains a figure of interest in Scottish football circles due to his overseas exposure. His transfer history includes a reported valuation of £320,000 when joining Hibernian, highlighting the value placed on his experience.
