About the player
McLean came up through the Rangers academy before switching to Hibernian in 2022, and in July 2023 he moved south to join Fleetwood Town's academy as a first-year scholar. He signed his first professional contract with the club, a two-year deal, in June 2025. His senior debut came the previous autumn, in October 2024, when he was brought on as a substitute in an EFL Trophy tie against Barrow.
To sharpen him for first-team football, Fleetwood sent him out on loan twice. He first joined Lancaster City in March 2025 for a 28-day work-experience spell that was later extended; he made six league appearances there without scoring. He then moved to Curzon Ashton in June 2025 on a three-month loan, which was extended into January 2026. That spell proved far more substantial: across the 2025–26 season he made 21 league appearances and 24 in all competitions for Curzon Ashton, though he is yet to find the net for the club.
Back at Fleetwood, McLean has started to make his mark in League Two, scoring twice for the first team so far this season.
