Dael Jonathan Fry

Dael Fry joined the Middlesbrough academy in 2006, aged seven, having started out at Cleveland Juniors. He stayed with the club for two decades, until he left as a free agent.

He signed his first professional contract in October 2014 and made his first-team debut on 9 August 2015. A season on loan at Rotherham United followed in 2016–2017, where he played 10 Championship matches. He then returned to Middlesbrough, and by the time he left he had made more than 290 senior appearances and had served as captain.

His international record is largely a youth record, and a notable one. Fry represented England at every level from Under-17 to Under-21. He won the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship and the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. In 2018 he was part of the England Under-21 side that won the Tournoi Maurice Revello, known as the Toulon Tournament, and he scored in the final against Mexico. He has not won a senior cap.

Fry has not won a senior club trophy. On 6 July 2026 he moved to Birmingham City on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract that runs until 2029.
