About the player
The route to that point began early. He started out at DJK SpVgg Herten and moved to the Schalke 04 academy in 2005, staying there until 2016. His senior debut came for Schalke 04 II in the Regionalliga West in 2016–17. He also played for Germany at youth level, including the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2016 and the FIFA U-20 World Cup a year later.
In 2017 he joined FC Ingolstadt 04 on a free transfer and played in the 2. Bundesliga. In the 2018–19 season he made 24 league appearances and scored once. He moved on to Holstein Kiel in 2019, again without a fee, and played 72 league games there without scoring. Kiel reached the 2. Bundesliga promotion play-offs in 2020–21.
Hannover 96 signed him in July 2022 on a three-year contract, and he was a regular starter. Across 94 league appearances he scored five goals.
In January 2025 he signed a pre-contract with Birmingham City. The move became official on 1 July 2025, when his Hannover deal expired, and he agreed a three-year contract running to 30 June 2028. He has not yet played for the senior German national team.
