About the player
Ryan Allsop spent the first decade of his senior career moving on, and the 2024–25 season at Birmingham City is where it paid off. He kept goal as the club won the EFL League One title and promotion to the Championship, and was named in the PFA League One Team of the Year. Birmingham lost 2–0 to Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy final.
Allsop came through the academy at West Bromwich Albion, signed his first professional contract in 2010 and left the following year without a senior appearance for the club. A loan at Stockport County came first, then spells at Millwall, at Höttur in Iceland and at Leyton Orient. He had also won five caps for England at under-17 level in 2008.
AFC Bournemouth signed him on a free transfer in January 2013 and kept him for five years, though most of his league football in that period came elsewhere. He made 24 league appearances on loan at Coventry City, Wycombe Wanderers, Portsmouth, Blackpool and Lincoln City. The Lincoln loan ended in a trophy: the club won the EFL Trophy in 2017–18.
He signed permanently with Wycombe Wanderers in June 2018 and played 99 games for the club. In 2020 Wycombe won the League One play-offs.
He then moved to Derby County in 2021 and to Cardiff City a year later, both on free transfers. Hull City paid a reported £250,000 for him in August 2023, and Birmingham signed him in June 2024.
