Daniel Tan Barlaser

Daniel Tan Barlaser, often known simply as Dan, is a midfielder whose career has been defined by steady movement through the English football pyramid. He joined Newcastle United's academy in 2006 after starting out with local side Swalwell Swifts. His journey from the Tyne to the Gallowgate took many turns, involving several loan spells away from his parent club before settling into a more permanent path.

After signing his first professional deal in 2015, Barlaser spent time on loan at Crewe Alexandra, Accrington Stanley, and Rotherham United. The move to Rotherham became permanent in 2020, and it was here that his profile began to rise. He ground out the win in the 2021/22 Papa John's Trophy final against Sutton United, starting the match as Rotherham claimed the trophy. That season he was also named EFL League One Player of the Month for December and selected for the League One Team of the Year.

In January 2023, he left for Middlesbrough, joining them for a reported fee of €1.025 million. He remained there until September 2025, when he moved to Hibernian on a season-long loan. The transfer was confirmed by STV News and Gazette Live just before the window closed. While there are speculative reports linking him with a free transfer to Milton Keynes Dons for the 2026/27 campaign, nothing has been confirmed.

Barlaser has represented his country at youth levels, earning nine caps for Turkey's U16 side and six for the U17s, alongside two appearances for England at U18 level. He has not yet earned a senior cap for either nation. His career totals stand at over 266 league appearances and 18 goals. One persistent myth suggests he won the Championship with Newcastle in 2016/17; that claim is incorrect, as the club was in the Premier League that year and he made only three cup appearances.
