About the player
George Johnston spent eleven years at Liverpool, from 2008 to 2019, and the closest he came to the senior side there was a pre-season appearance in 2018. The left-sided defender left for Feyenoord in 2019 for a reported £300,000, with Liverpool keeping a 30 per cent sell-on clause. He played four times for the Dutch club.
In January 2021 he went on loan to Wigan Athletic and made 22 appearances, scoring once. At Bolton he was named Young Player of the Year for 2021–22.
The following season Bolton won the EFL Trophy, beating Plymouth Argyle 4–0 in the final. He made 38 League One appearances for Bolton up to the end of the 2024–25 season. In 2026 Bolton won the League One play-offs and secured promotion.
Johnston has played for Scotland at youth level: once for the Under-20s and ten times for the Under-21s. He has not yet been capped by the senior side.
In June 2026 he signed for Luton Town on a free transfer and has since made seven appearances for them.
