About the player
Jake Richards was part of the Luton Town side that beat Stockport County 3–1 at Wembley in the 2025–26 EFL Trophy final on 12 April 2026. He started and played the full 90 minutes.
The route to that afternoon began in Devon. Richards came through Exeter City's academy from Under-12 level, signed a scholarship in August 2023 and made his senior debut later that same month. He was still an apprentice in 2024–25, and that season he was named EFL League One Apprentice of the Season.
In July 2025 he moved to Luton on a permanent transfer. Exeter received undisclosed training compensation for a player who had spent two seasons with their first team and academy. By the end of 2025–26 he had won the club's Young Player of the Season award, alongside the Wembley final.
Richards plays in central midfield. He has also been part of the England youth set-up.
