About the player
Giovanni van Zwam made his professional debut for Vitesse on 19 August 2023, coming on as an 83rd-minute substitute in a 1–3 Eredivisie defeat to PSV Eindhoven. The centre-back had come through the club's academy after arriving from NEC Nijmegen, having started out at WAVV. He went on to make 46 league appearances across two seasons at Vitesse, playing 12 times in the Eredivisie in 2023–24 before the club's relegation to the Eerste Divisie, where he featured 34 times in 2024–25.
That season ended badly for the club as a whole: Vitesse lost its professional licence, sealing the drop to the second tier regardless of results on the pitch. Van Zwam left as a free agent, joining Go Ahead Eagles on 1 September 2025 on a contract running until mid-2027, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further year.
At Go Ahead Eagles he has continued to play regularly, with 15 league appearances by August 2026, and has also featured in the UEFA Europa League. Right-footed and 185 cm tall, he plays at centre-back.
