Guilherme Smith

Guilherme Smith left Brazil for Ukraine in 2021, signing with Zorya Luhansk on a three-year contract after coming through the youth ranks at Vasco da Gama, Fluminense and Botafogo. He managed only a single senior appearance for Zorya, spending part of the deal on loan at Braga B in Portugal, where he scored twice in 16 outings. The move that reshaped his career came in August 2024, when he joined Estonian side Nõmme Kalju on a free transfer. There he found the form that had eluded him since leaving Brazil, scoring 16 goals in 44 appearances across the Meistriliiga, the Estonian Cup and the UEFA Conference League. That run persuaded Union Saint-Gilloise to sign him in August 2025, initially on a contract running to June 2029, with an option for a further year that the club exercised in July 2026, extending his stay to 2030. At Union, Smith has established himself as a regular contributor from the left wing: as of September 2026 he has scored five goals in 26 league matches, added one in the Champions League and four in the Belgian Cup. Smith wears the number 11 shirt at the Brussels club. His path from Rio de Janeiro's academies to a starting role in Belgian and European football ran through spells in Ukraine, Portugal and Estonia before he found consistent playing time.
