About the player
Harry Tyrer spent eighteen years at Everton without playing a first-team match. He joined the club's academy at seven, signed his first professional contract in January 2020 and appeared for the under-21 side. Those loans then supplied the senior football.
The first was at Chester, who took him on a season-long loan in July 2022. He played 55 matches, and the National League North named him in its Team of the Season for 2022–23.
That season led to Chesterfield, where he moved on loan in June 2023. He played 43 games as the club won promotion from the National League to League Two in 2023–24.
A step up followed in August 2024, when Blackpool signed him on loan. He played 42 matches in League One, the first time he had kept goal in the Football League for a full season.
Everton did not give him a first-team debut. In January 2026 he left permanently for Cardiff City, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee. The move came after Cardiff's transfer embargo had been lifted.
Tyrer, who is 6ft 4in, was born in Crosby, a few miles from Merseyside's two big clubs. Cardiff is the first club he has joined outright.
