About the player
Houboulang Mendes made his way into professional football through Stade Lavallois's academy, joining aged 15 in 2013 after coming through the youth ranks at ES Viry-Châtillon and Juvisy-sur-Orge AF. He worked through Laval's reserve side before breaking into the first team, making his senior debut in 2017.
A free transfer took him to FC Lorient in 2018, where he stayed for four years, including a spell with the club's reserve side in 2019. Almería signed him in 2022 for an undisclosed fee, though his time in Andalusia was interrupted by two loan spells away from the club: at CD Mirandés during the 2024 season and then at ES Troyes AC for 2024–2025. His contract with Almería was terminated in August 2025, and he signed for Fortuna Sittard on a free transfer that same month.
In January 2026, Servette FC brought him in from Fortuna Sittard for an undisclosed fee.
Internationally, Mendes represents Guinea-Bissau, for whom he made his debut in 2023 and has gone on to earn caps without finding the net, including a place in the squad for that year's Africa Cup of Nations.
