About the player
Ionuţ Nedelcearu arrived at Akron in February 2025 from Palermo, a move reported at a fee between €100,000 and €150,000 that brought him into the Russian Premier League on a contract running to 2027. At Palermo, from July 2022, he made 65 league appearances and scored twice, and before that he had a season at Crotone with 34 league outings. Italy was preceded by a season in Greece, at AEK Athens, where 25 league appearances and one goal followed a transfer from FC Ufa worth around €550,000.
He made his senior debut for Dinamo Bucureşti, the club where Nedelcearu was formed as a player. He won the Cupa Ligii with Dinamo in the 2016–17 season, and was on the losing side in the 2015–16 Cupa României final.
At international level, Nedelcearu made his senior debut for Romania on 27 March 2018 against Sweden. He has since earned 27 caps and scored twice for the national team, and was named in Romania's squad for UEFA Euro 2024, though he did not feature in the tournament.
