About the player
Léo Scienza's career carries the shape of a slow climb through the lower tiers of German football. Born in Venâncio Aires, Brazil, he began with Avenida, Chapecoense, Lajeadense and Defensor Sporting before making his senior debut for Lajeadense in 2018.
A free transfer took him to 1. Bundesliga while he scored more freely for the club's second team. It was at SSV Ulm 1846, from July 2023, that he became decisive: as the club's top scorer with 12 goals in the 3. Liga during the 2023–24 season, he helped Ulm win the title and reach promotion, a campaign that earned him the DFB's 3. Liga Player of the Season award.
That form persuaded 1. FC Heidenheim to sign him in July 2024 for a reported €500,000 release clause on a three-year contract. His time there produced 37 appearances and six goals, but one strike stands above the rest: a stoppage-time winner in the second leg of the 2024–25 relegation play-off against Elversberg, a goal that kept Heidenheim in the Bundesliga.
In September 2025, Southampton signed him on a four-year contract for a minimum fee of around €10 million.
