Martín Payero

Martín Payero scored his first goal for Boca Juniors against Aldosivi in October 2022, and the fans voted him the best player of that match. He had arrived on a free loan from Middlesbrough that July, with an option to buy. That season he won the Argentine Primera División and the Supercopa Argentina with the club.

Boca was a stop on a route that began at Banfield, where he came through the youth system and made his senior debut in 2017. A season on loan at Talleres de Córdoba followed in 2019–2020.

In August 2021 Middlesbrough signed him for a reported fee of around €7 million. The spell in England was short on games: he played 15 times for the club and scored once. Boca took him for the 2022–2023 season, and that was the larger part of what he did while under contract at Middlesbrough.

Udinese signed him on 1 September 2023 for a fee reported at around €3 million. In August 2025 he went on loan to Cremonese for the 2025–2026 season, an arrangement that included a conditional obligation to buy.

His most recent move came as part of a three-player deal. Iker Bravo and Jordan Zemura also left Udinese for Watford, and Payero signed for the English club on 31 July 2026 on a contract running to 30 June 2028. The fee was not disclosed.
