About the player
Nick de Groot came through Den Bosch's own academy, joining as a boy in 2008 and staying with the club right up to his professional debut. He made that first-team bow on 8 January 2022 against FC Emmen, signed his first professional contract the following month and extended it in November 2023 to run until 2027. The left-back scored his first senior goal on 12 May 2023 against Almere City FC.
De Groot grew into one of the more established figures in Den Bosch's dressing room, captaining the side on several occasions, including a 1-1 draw with Roda JC Kerkrade in November 2024. His standout individual performance came in March 2025, when he scored twice and set up another in a 4-2 win over Jong PSV while wearing the armband. Across his time at the club he made 139 appearances and scored 10 goals, with four goals and three assists coming in the 2025/26 season alone.
That form prompted a move away from Den Bosch: in July 2026 he transferred to Fortuna Sittard on a three-year contract until 2029, with the fee reportedly set at €250,000 through a buyout clause in his previous deal.
