Nicky Devlin

Nicky Devlin’s move to Aberdeen arrived with a storm of controversy. Livingston manager David Martindale voiced sharp criticism after photos of the signing were leaked prematurely. Devlin joined the club on a free transfer in 2023.

His journey to the top flight included leadership roles at several lower-league clubs. He captained Ayr United and later took the armband at Livingston. Before those permanent moves, his senior path involved loans and spells at Stenhousemuir and Dumbarton. He originally began his career in the Hamilton Academical academy before making the switch to Dumbarton in 2009.

On the international stage, Devlin earned his Scotland debut in October 2024. He came off the bench against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League and made a crucial late block against Rafael Leão. He added a second cap against Poland later that year.

At Aberdeen, he has become a key figure. He won the Scottish Cup in the 2024–25 season, securing the club’s first major trophy since 1990. His individual form was recognised when he was named Premiership Player of the Month for October 2024. Earlier in his career, his performances were strong enough to earn him selection for the PFA Scotland Team of the Year in both Scottish League One and the Scottish Championship.

Devlin plays as a right-back and wears shirt number 2. He is right-footed and stands 183 cm tall.
