Patrick Roberts

In December 2016, Patrick Roberts, then on loan at Celtic from Manchester City, scored a solo goal against Manchester City in the Champions League. He had been signed by City the year before for a reported £12 million and made only one Premier League appearance for them.

Roberts started in the AFC Wimbledon youth system and joined the Fulham academy in 2010. He made 19 senior appearances for Fulham before leaving for City in July 2015. He was also named in the team of the tournament at the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.

Most of his City contract was spent elsewhere. He had loans at Celtic, Girona, Norwich City, Middlesbrough, Derby County and Troyes, and the longest was in Glasgow. Over three years at Celtic he played 55 games and scored 15 goals. He won three Scottish Premierships, two Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups, and was named Scottish Player of the Month in April 2016. Elsewhere the spells were shorter: three appearances for Norwich, one for Troyes.

Sunderland took him on loan in January 2022 and signed him permanently that June. He played 134 games for the club. His winning goal in the League One play-off semi-final against Sheffield Wednesday helped take Sunderland to the Championship.

Roberts joined Birmingham City on loan from Sunderland in September 2025, and the move was made permanent in February 2026 for an undisclosed fee. In his 25 appearances for the club he has scored three goals and set up four.

He has played for England at every youth level from under-16 to under-20 but has not been capped by the senior side. He trained with the under-21 squad ahead of Euro 2019 without making the final selection.
