Ryan Frank Wintle arrived at Cardiff City in June 2021 on a free transfer.

Wintle’s time at Crewe Alexandra was defined by consistency. However, his path was not without interruption. A stress fracture of the tibia sustained in September 2017 ruled him out for months, testing his resilience before he returned in January 2018.

At Cardiff, Wintle became a central figure in midfield. His influence was highlighted in the 2025–26 season, where he helped Cardiff secure the EFL League One runner-up position, securing promotion to the Championship. He was subsequently named Cardiff City Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season for that decisive campaign.

The end of his Cardiff career was abrupt. Despite receiving the Player of the Season award, the club announced he would leave when his contract expired in May 2026. Wintle stated this was ‘a decision that was completely out of my control.’ He then moved to Milton Keynes Dons on a free transfer in July 2026. Earlier loans at Blackpool and Millwall provided further experience, with the Blackpool stint described as ‘an odd one’ due to his early recall. One moment remains distinct: his opening goal in Cardiff’s 4-0 win over Plymouth Argyle on August 30, 2025.
