Somto chukwu Boniface

Somto Boniface's route into Ipswich Town ran through Chelsea, where he had been since the age of nine. He came up through the club's under-18 and under-21 sides, signed his first professional contract in early 2023 and was named Chelsea's Academy Scholar of the Year for 2022–23. His main youth honour there was the Under-18 Premier League Cup, won in 2021–22.

On transfer deadline day, 31 January 2025, he left Chelsea permanently for Ipswich, for an undisclosed fee, and joined the under-21 squad. That first season brought two Premier League 2 appearances. He also made the first-team bench seven times, among them the Premier League match against Arsenal in April 2025, but did not make a senior competitive appearance.

The following season he was a regular starter for the under-21s. He played 16 times in Premier League 2, scoring once and providing four assists, and added two more assists in his one Premier League Cup appearance.

Boniface has played for England at every youth level from under-16 to under-20. He won three caps and scored once for the under-16s, and 13 caps for the under-17s between February 2022 and July 2023. He added three for the under-18s. His under-20 debut came in October 2025, in a friendly against Switzerland. He is also eligible to play for Nigeria but has not done so.

In July 2026 he went to League One side Leyton Orient on loan for the 2026–27 season.
