About the player
Sékou Koné's route into professional football began at Guidars FC in Mali, but it was with the Mali under-17s that he first drew wider attention, helping the side finish third at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup after twelve appearances in the age group. He has since added six caps and two goals for the Mali under-23s, including a spell at the 2025 Maurice Revello Tournament.
That U-17 run proved decisive for his career. He was registered with the club's under-21 squad rather than pushed straight into first-team contention.
Game time at that level has come through loan spells rather than at Old Trafford itself. Koné moved to FC Lausanne-Sport on loan in February 2026 for the remainder of that season, and he returned to Lausanne-Sport on a second loan in July 2026, this time for the full 2026–27 campaign.
He remains, by his own federation's reckoning, a player still building his senior résumé — no caps yet for the Mali first team, and no individual honours to date.
