About the player
Signed by Mansfield Town as a teenager and handed his first professional contract in March 2009, he made 23 league appearances there before Derby moved for him, first on loan and then permanently. Derby sent him out to Bradford City, Grimsby Town, Newport County, Cambridge United and Burton Albion before he made only eight league appearances for the Rams themselves.
It was at Burton Albion, joined on a free transfer in 2015, that Naylor found a settled run, making 107 league appearances and scoring 12 goals. A move to Portsmouth in 2018 brought the most productive spell of his career: 122 league appearances and 11 goals, plus an EFL Trophy winner's medal in 2018–19 and a runner-up finish in the same competition the following season.
Wigan Athletic signed him on a free transfer in 2021, and he was part of the squad that won the EFL League One title in 2021–22, contributing 79 league appearances and five goals across his time at the club.
Naylor joined Chesterfield on a three-year contract in the summer of 2023. He was part of the side that won the National League title in his first season there, 2023–24, a campaign in which he was also named the club's Player of the Season and included in the National League Team of the Season.
