About the player
Yousef Salech made his name in the Danish second tier. On loan at HB Køge in 2022–23 from Brøndby, he scored 15 goals in 24 First Division appearances and finished as the club's top scorer.
He came to that point by a short route. Salech began at Boldklubben Skjold, moved to Hellerup IK and made his senior debut there in 2020. Brøndby signed him in June 2021. A second loan followed, to Belgian side SK Beveren for 2023–24, before he left Denmark for good.
In February 2024 he joined Sweden's IK Sirius. The reported fee was €600,000 plus a 25% sell-on clause. Less than a year later, Cardiff City bought him from Sirius in a deal that set a club record for the Swedish side. Cardiff reportedly paid about £500,000 up front, with the total cost of the deal estimated at between £3.3 million and €4 million.
At 195 centimetres, he gave Cardiff a target man in League One in 2025–26. By January 2026 his 12 goals had put him level at the top of the division's scoring list. Cardiff finished second and were promoted to the Championship.
In August 2026 the EFL named him Carabao Cup Player of the Round for his performance against Swindon Town.
