Adana Demirspor spent last season fighting relegation from the Süper Lig and lost the fight: the drop was confirmed in the 28th week, in March 2025, after Bodrum FK beat their neighbours, and the club now plays in the Trendyol 1. Lig. Two wins from 36 matches, five draws and 28 defeats told part of the story; twelve points deducted across the campaign, three of them for walking off the pitch during a match against Galatasaray, told the rest. Four managers passed through the dugout in a single season, from Michael Valkanis at the start to Mustafa Alper Avcı at the end, and none of them stopped the slide.

None of that fits the club that grew out of Adana's amateur football scene. Getting to the top flight itself was a longer job, done in stages through the second tier, with the most recent, in 2021, finally the one that stuck for a while. A Turkish Cup final was lost to Trabzonspor in 1978, and the Süper Lig title has never come; 4th place in 2022–23 remains the highest the club has finished.

The Adana derby against Adanaspor is the fixture that matters most in the city, sharpened further by the wider Çukurova rivalry with Mersin İdman Yurdu. But the name most people outside Turkey reach for is Mario Balotelli, who arrived in 2021, scored 19 goals in his first season at Yeni Adana Stadyumu, and came back for a second spell in 2023 — long enough to see the club he'd helped push forward start to fall apart.
