Menemen FK's clearest promotion came in the 2018–19 season, when the club topped the TFF 2. Lig Kırmızı Group and went up to the 1. Lig. That climb followed an earlier one: in 2013–14, Menemen won the TFF 3. Lig play-off final, and further back, in 1985–86, the club took its group in the TFF 3. Lig to reach the 2. Lig for the first time.

The club's roots go back to 1927, under the name Menemen Türk Ocağı İdman Yurdu, though 1942 stands as the recognised founding year, when it took the name Menemenspor. That identity held until 1992, when financial trouble forced the club to dissolve; it was rebuilt the same year as Menemen Belediyespor. The Menemenspor name returned in May 2019, and in August 2022 new ownership under Ekmas Sportif Faaliyetler renamed the club Menemen Futbol Kulübü, giving it the nickname Kuzey Yıldızı — The North Star.

Games against Aliağa FK and Bucaspor 1928 carry the weight of the İzmir Derbisi. Menemen plays in navy and yellow, and its academy has sent players such as Alper Buğan and Muhammet Özer through to senior football.

The top flight proved short-lived: Menemen went down from the 1. Lig at the end of the 2021–22 season, and the club is still working its way back from that drop.
