They called the club Football Association at first, since that was still the name people used for the game itself, and they wrote into the rules that no foreigner could play.

The colours took longer to settle than the name. A white blouse with a red star at the start, then blue with white collar and cuffs, before red and blue — taken from the Union Flag — became permanent from 1895. El Decano is what they call the club now, one of the four that founded the national association in 1900.

What followed was mostly absence. Albion left the top division in 1908 and did not return until 2021, and between 1977 and 2017 the club sat in the lower tiers altogether, forty years without a way out. Promotions in 2017, 2021 and 2025 mark the climb back. Gustavo Munúa, who kept goal for Uruguay at the 2002 World Cup, came up through the youth ranks in that long stretch between top-flight appearances.
