Catania

Marco Biagianti wore the armband through the years Catania remembers best, the run that took the club back into Serie A in 2006 and kept it there into the following decade. Long before him, in the 1960s, Carmelo Di Bella's side gave the club its best league finishes, three eighth-place seasons in Serie A.

The club playing under that name today dates to 24 September 1946, when US Catanese Elefante merged with Virtus Catania, though a football section in the city had existed since 1908. History repeated itself in 2022, when Catania folded under its debts and had to be reconstituted as Catania Football Club s.r.l.

The meeting from 2 February 2007 is remembered for the wrong reason — Catania won 2-1, but a policeman, Filippo Raciti, died in the disorder outside the ground that night.

Home games are played at the Stadio Angelo Massimino, named for the president who ran the club for more than 25 years.
