It holds 21,898, a size that puts it among the larger grounds in Spain's second tier.

The club that plays there took its present shape on 6 December 1954, though the football did not start from nothing: a predecessor, Real Club Deportivo Córdoba, had been going since 1944 and won the Copa Federación in 1951. The new club went up out of the Tercera in 1955/56 and, seven years later, won the Segunda outright in 1961/62.

What has followed since has mostly been the third tier and the climb back out of it. Córdoba won the Segunda B in 1994/95, again in 1996/97, and then, after a long absence from that kind of afternoon, in 2021/22. In between came the Copa RFEF in 2021, the fifth official trophy the club has put on the wall.

The dressing room has had visitors worth naming. Oleg Salenko played here; Vicente del Bosque also passed through as a player.

The Andalusian derby against Málaga is the fixture that carries the most weight, though Granada, Almería and Cádiz all fall under the same heading. The 2025/26 season has given the club nothing from any of them.
