Cuniburo

Vargas Torres pulled the 2022 final back to 3-3 inside ninety minutes, and the shootout went 4-3 to Cuniburo.

It had been founded on 11 April 1992 in Cayambe by a group of young football enthusiasts, as Club Deportivo Cuniburo. In 2025 it became Vinotinto Ecuador — Vinotinto del Ecuador Fútbol Club in full — and switched to maroon and white. The nickname stayed: El Duende.

Home is the Estadio Olímpico Guillermo Albornoz in Cayambe, a 12,000-seat ground, though the bigger occasions have increasingly been played away from it, at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa in Quito, which holds around 35,000.

Two years after the shootout against Vargas Torres, Cuniburo went one better. On 16 October 2024 it beat 9 de Octubre 5-2 in the Serie B final, a first title at that level and passage into Ecuador's top flight.
