Fiorentina Women

Florence already had a women's side with a history before the men's club took an interest. A.C.F. Firenze had played since 1979 and reached the Coppa Italia final in 1971 under an earlier name, losing 1–0 to Roma. In July 2015 ACF Fiorentina bought its Serie A licence, and the city's women's football acquired a professional owner. Fiorentina became the first professionally affiliated women's club in Italy.

The results came quickly. In 2016–17 the team won the league for the first time and beat Brescia 2–1 in the Coppa Italia final to complete the double. A year later they beat Brescia again, 3–1, to keep the cup. Patrizia Panico, who had won ten Scudetti with Verona, played that first title season in purple and later returned as coach.

Europe followed. The UEFA Women's Champions League has featured Fiorentina in five seasons, and three of them ended in the last 16: 2017–18, 2018–19 and 2020–21. In the domestic cup the run of finals did not stop, but the trophy did not come back. Juventus won 2–1 in 2018–19, and in 2023–24 Roma took the final on penalties after a 3–3 draw.

By then the squad was being rebuilt. Valentina Giacinti arrived in 2022, when the task was to stay up. Alia Guagni, the captain who had come through at Firenze, had moved on to Atletico Madrid and then AC Milan.

Since 2020 the team has been part of the men's club under the name ACF Fiorentina (femminile). They play at Stadio Curva Fiesole, a 3,000-seat ground inside the Viola Park training centre at Bagno a Ripoli. Their local rivals are Empoli Ladies, in the Derby Toscano.
