FSV Zwickau

The side that won the East German league title in 1949–50 played under the name ZSG Horch Zwickau. By 1951 it was BSG Aktivist Karl-Marx Zwickau. The club began in 1912 as FC Planitz, and it was later renamed SG Planitz, BSG Motor, BSG Sachsenring and, from 1990, FSV Zwickau.

The same pattern runs through the cups. The FDGB-Pokal , the East German cup, came to Zwickau in 1963 and 1967 under the name Motor, and again in 1975 under Sachsenring. Earlier honours, the Gauliga Sachsen in 1942 and the Ostzone title in 1948, were won as Planitzer Sportclub and SG Planitz.

It won the NOFV-Oberliga Süd in 1992, 1994 and 2012, and it went insolvent in 1999 and again in 2010. In 2015 it left the Westsachsenstadion for the ground it uses now, and a year later it won the Regionalliga Nordost. Relegation from the 3. Liga came in 2023. The nearest rivalry is the Erzgebirgsderby with FC Erzgebirge Aue, and there is an older one with Dynamo Dresden.

He kept goal for Sachsenring from 1965 to 1981 and went to the 1974 World Cup with East Germany.
