Langenrohr

SV Langenrohr measures itself against FC Tulln, the club everyone in Langenrohr calls the arch-rival, and against SV Würmla, whose meetings carry their own name, the Tullnerfeld derby.

The club has stayed in the Landesliga Niederösterreich, the fourth tier, since winning promotion there in 1992/93 through a play-off against Hausmening.

In 1994, and again in 1999, it beat Austria Wien and Rapid Wien in friendlies, both times by the same 4-3 scoreline, against opponents who were national champions or runners-up at the time. In the Austrian Cup, a 2005/06 run ended against Sturm Graz, who needed extra time after Langenrohr had led 4-2 late on.

The 1994 match against Austria Wien was not an ordinary friendly. It was arranged in memory of Gerhard Kratky, the club's first Landesliga coach and a player there, killed by lightning during a training camp in Turkey that winter.

One player passed through on his way somewhere bigger: Stefan Maierhofer scored 26 goals in 53 matches for the club between 2003 and 2005 before his move to Bayern Munich.

None of it existed before 1947, when a group in Langenrohr finally got a pitch to play on, a piece of former pasture the municipality handed over after earlier attempts at forming a club in the 1930s had failed for want of exactly that.
