George Best turned out for the club once, in 1983 — a Manchester United great playing in a Brisbane suburb. Two years earlier, Bob Latchford had worn the same shirt, in the season the club, then known as Brisbane Lions, won the NSL Cup.
The club started in 1957 as Hollandia-Inala, formed by Dutch immigrants in the suburb of Richlands. It became Brisbane Lions in 1974, then Queensland Lions in 2002 after a naming dispute with the AFL club of the same name, and reverted to Lions FC in 2021.
Its success has stayed within Queensland football, spread across decades of Brisbane Premier League finals and, since 2018, NPL Queensland. It last took the state championship in 2025 and topped the regular season in 2026.
Its keenest fixture is the Brisbane Classico, against Brisbane City FC.
Home games are played at Luxury Paints Stadium in Richlands, which holds 5,000.
