Brisbane Roar II

Brisbane Roar II answer to no one in particular week to week — as a reserve side feeding one senior club, its edge comes from the gulf between what it is asked to build and what it is allowed to win. Set up in 2008 under the Queensland Roar banner for the inaugural Y-League season, the team spent its early years chasing a trophy that kept slipping away, losing four separate Grand Finals between 2012 and 2017 before finally taking the title in 2018–19, beating Western Sydney Wanderers U21 3–1.

By then the Y-League itself was winding down, and the side shifted its focus to the Queensland NPL, where it had already been fielded since 2014. That switch paid off in 2021, when Brisbane Roar II topped the regular-season table only to lose the Grand Final 0–3 to Brisbane Olympic — a reminder that finishing first in Queensland still counts for little once the knockout starts. The club trimmed its academy structure in October 2022, folding the younger age groups and leaving the senior team to carry the Brisbane Roar II name alone, before a rebrand in October 2025 recast it as the Brisbane Roar B Team.

Games are played at Logan Metro Sports Complex, a 1,500-capacity ground well removed from the scale of the first team's fixtures, in the orange and blue that match the parent club's colours. The team's real function shows in what happens after the final whistle rather than during it: forward Rylan Brownlie scored once in four NPL appearances for the side in early 2023 before stepping up to the first team, and by 2025 had signed for Crystal Palace in England.

For all the Grand Final appearances, an outright NPL Queensland senior title has not followed — the closest the side has come remains that runner-up finish in 2021.
