Queensland NPL has been Olympic's home since the competition's first season in 2013, and the club has spent the years since establishing itself as a fixture of the top flight in Brisbane rather than a passing name. Australia Cup runs have punctuated recent seasons more than league form has: a Round of 16 exit to Central Coast Mariners in 2014, a Round of 32 loss to South Melbourne in extra time as recently as 2024.

The club traces back to 1967, when Greek immigrants from the island of Rhodes founded it in the Brisbane suburb of Yeronga as Pan Rhodian FC. A year later the name changed to Olympic, a deliberate move to draw support beyond the Rhodian community that had started it. A 1999 merger with St George's Willawong produced Brisbane Olympic United, a name the club carried until 2008, when it reverted to Olympic FC.

Goodwin Park has been the constant through those changes, a 1,500-capacity ground that was still the venue when Olympic won that inaugural NPL Queensland title in 2013, taking the regular season by 8 points before beating Brisbane City 3–3 in the Grand Final and holding their nerve through a 3–0 penalty shootout at home. It was the club's second Grand Final win in an opening season of a top-flight competition — the first came in 1983, when Olympic United beat Brisbane Lions 3–2 in the first Brisbane Premier League decider.

Brisbane City remain the fixture that carries the most weight, the cross-town meeting both sides and their supporters still call a derby without needing a separate name for it. Olympic's clearest link to the wider game runs through its academy partnership with Brisbane Roar, the pathway that in its own small way passed a young Fahid Ben Khalfallah through Goodwin Park before his career took him elsewhere.
