Moghreb Tétouan

Tétouan sits close to the Spanish coast. When Moghreb Athletic de Tétouan took shape in 1922, it adopted the red-and-white striped shirts and blue shorts that still define the team, and with them the nickname "Los Matadores."

The years before Moroccan independence found the club playing in the Spanish system, where it reached the Segunda División and finished fifth. Afterwards, in the domestic league, Tétouan built a peculiar kind of reputation: a specialist in the second tier, winning it seven times, a record no other Moroccan club has matched. The breakthrough into the top flight's summit came later and briefly, in 2011–12 and again in 2013–14, back-to-back titles that stand as the club's golden spell. The second of those championships sent Tétouan to the FIFA Club World Cup, where Mouhcine Iajour became the first African player to score in the competition's history.

Coach Sergio Lobera later pushed the club into the CAF Champions League group stage. That rhythm of rising and falling held: relegation in 2020–21 was followed by an immediate return, and by a runners-up finish in the Coupe du Trône.

Home matches are shaped by the Northern Derby against Ittihad Tanger. Tétouan's own ground, Stade Saniat Rmel, known locally as La Hípica, holds up to 15,000 people, and it is there, on the edge of the city facing the strait, that the club's brief spell among Morocco's champions is still measured against.
