Olimpia Elbląg

The regional cup is where Olimpia Elbląg's history is written down twice over: the Warmińsko-Mazurski Cup four times between 2001–02 and 2008–09, and before that the Elbląg district cup, taken five times through the 1980s and 1990s. Neither is the Polish Cup, and the club has stopped at the second tier in every attempt at anything higher — an eighth-place finish in the II liga in 1986–87 is as close as it has come, and a Round of 16 run in the national cup back in 1976–77 stands alone in more than seventy years of trying.

The name has changed almost as often as the political ground beneath it. Founded in May 1945 as MKS Syrena, the club passed through Stocznia, Ogniwo, Budowlani, and back to Olimpia before 1960, then spent 1992 to 2002 as Polonia Elbląg after a restructuring meant to shed inherited debt. It became Olimpia again in October 2004, and in 2013 took its present form as a trade union sports club, reflected in the nickname "Związkowi" alongside "the Yellow, White and Blues."

Relegation has become a habit rather than a crisis: down from the I liga after finishing 18th in 2023/2024, then straight through the II liga a year later with another last-place finish, dropping the club into the III liga for 2025/2026. In July 2025 the club filed for bankruptcy protection, and Tomasz Orzechowski took over as president the following February, with Damian Hebda now in charge of the team. The academy has outdone the first team on occasion — a runner-up finish in the Polish Youth Championship in 1989, and graduates including Bartosz Białkowski, who went on to play for Millwall.

The 3,000 seats at Stadion Miejski hold a fraction of what the ground once did: 12,000 turned up there in the 1970s, when the first football teams in postwar Elbląg were still finding their feet.
